Alpha in Homes.

Explore Life, Faith, and Meaning.

Alpha is a global movement and a safe space to explore the big questions of life, faith, and meaning in a way that’s authentic and relaxed. It is specifically designed for those who wouldn’t necessarily identify as Christians - whether you are an atheist, a skeptic, or just a little bit curious.

At Alpha, your perspective is always welcome. It’s simply a place to bring your honest thoughts and explore the basics of the Christian faith alongside others who are in the same boat. You aren't just joining a local group; you’re joining a worldwide community. To date, over 37 million people have experienced Alpha in over 175 countries and 100 languages.

What is Alpha?

Alpha in Homes.

We all have those friends, colleagues, or neighbours in Sea Point who are curious about the meaning of life but might not feel ready to walk into a church building. That’s why we’re bringing the conversation to them.

We’re creating a relaxed, non-judgmental space to explore life’s big questions over a great meal. We believe the best conversations happen around a dinner table, and there’s no better place to connect than in the heart of our neighbourhood.

How it works.

Every Alpha session is built around three simple, key elements:

01. Connect over Food: Every session starts with a meal. It’s the best way to get to know people in your community and settle into being together.

02. Watch a Talk: We’ll watch a short film (about 25 minutes) designed to spark conversation. These episodes unpack the basics of Christianity, addressing questions like "Is there more to life than this?" and "Who is Jesus?"

03. Share Your Thoughts: This is the most important part: After the film, we chat about what we just watched. You can say exactly what you think, ask any question, or just sit back and listen.

Stories from Alpha in Homes.

“Alpha in Homes was a life-changing experience. What started out as a group of strangers, became close friends who grappled with life’s most difficult questions together.

Our group facilitators, Mike, Shreya and Alex, were so warm and welcoming (and they made amazing food!). They created a safe space for us to have deep conversations, ask complex questions, and learn more about God, life’s purpose and spirituality.

If you have questions about God, and you enjoy good company - sign up for Alpha!”

“I had a really good experience doing Alpha at Common Ground Sea Point, I was made to feel genuinely welcome. I learnt a lot from the group questions and discussions, it made me process aspects of faith in the context of community. We had great meals and had lots of fun conversations along the way.

A friend I invited was initially skeptical about joining, but they ended up really enjoying it too.

I would really encourage anyone considering it to give it a try, you have nothing to loose, and so much to gain.”

Sajan

“Alpha created the space for me to ask the tough questions about faith and Jesus. The answers, or at least the discussions, reaffirmed my faith in and love for Jesus and the greatness of God’s Kingdom.

It is an open space of exploration so if you ever feel that you have foundational questions I’d encourage you to sign up!”
